INF: Using Locations to separate groups of feeds

What is a "location"?

A "location" is a term used in NewsGator Online to represent a logical grouping of feeds, such as a work computer, home computer, or mobile phone. A location can be any of the following:

A computer running NewsGator Inbox, FeedDemon, or NetNewsWire
NewsGator Online
POP3 Email Client
NewsGator Mobile
Any other user defined location

All of your feeds are tracked within NewsGator Online; any particular location can include any subset of these feeds. This allows you to have separate (but possibly overlapping) feed lists between home and work, expose a small subset of your feeds to NewsGator Mobile, or only expose certain feeds in a public OPML file.

Configure a feed to only appear in specific locations

  1. Login to NewsGator Online
  2. Click "My Settings" and select "My Feeds"
  3. Find the feed you want to change and click the edit icon in the "Action" column (it looks like a pencil)
  4. Under Step 3, uncheck the locations that you don't want the feed to appear in
  5. Click "Save Feed"

Alternatively, you can manage this at the location (which may be easier if there are several feeds that you want to remove).

  1. Click "My Settings" and select "Edit Locations"
  2. Find the Location you wish to change and click "Feeds"
  3. Uncheck each of the feeds that you don't want at that Location
  4. Click "Update" to save your changes

Ensure new feed are not automatically added to a custom location

If you need to make sure that new feeds aren't automatically added to a custom location, under "Edit Locations" look for the "Click to change" link under the Location description.  It will follow the text, "New subscriptions will be automatically added to this location".  Click that link to toggle this setting.

The downside of setting this option is that you will need to remember to manually include new feeds for this Location later.
